In Focus: Horizons No. 55
Horizons is my latest series. It’s the longest I have made so far and still going, it’s the evolution of many years painting in oils. This is me honoring our land, the place where we live, mother nature. And to honor the grandiosity of our land I made many of these paintings as big as I could, some things need to be big to be better appreciated, they carry a different feel, a different atmosphere, one seems to interact better with it, kind of sacred. To perceive all this you have to experience it in person.

In Focus: Journey No. 2
This painting preceded the landscape-based Horizons series. It is a clash of different ideas, many layers of paint, corrections, additions, subtractions that slowly came together to a somewhat cohesive composition. I usually don’t work this way, it is a lot of struggle and frustration. At the time I was using elements from older paintings such as stripes, which I’m revisiting these days, paint dripping techniques and the usual random abstract mountains, rocks, planets and celestial objects which I have been using for quite some time.
As the title suggests it is a Journey to somewhere, perhaps some place we know or one that we might discover some time in the future. Or maybe you might dream about it like I have.
Most of my paintings are based off my dreams (and this one is not the exception,) curiosity and my ever desire to question absolutely everything.

In Focus: Entangled Yvette
A place where reality meets fantasy and fantasy meets reality. Unconscious desires, playfulness and encounters with other living beings.
While wandering through the wilderness Yvette finds herself entangled in the beauty and mystery of nature. Although having taken a slight stumble she is unperturbed and carries on.
This piece is dominantly painted in a delightful muted palette of blues and greens. This is an almost square mid-size (24 x 22 inches) oil painting on canvas. Canvas is stretched on wooden strips and is ready for framing or to be displayed as is. This painting is signed ‘cherres’ in the lower left corner.
All my original paintings are handmade from scratch.

In Focus: Summer Days
Sometimes titles come after I paint something. That’s the case of this painting, it started as a small figure, part of another series called “Garden of Earthly Delights” and evolved into this abstracted landscape. It has warmer tones reminding me of the endless sunny Floridian days with hints of hurricane colors here and there.

In Focus: Horizons No. 50
Horizons No. 50 is one of my favorites of the series, I achieved everything I could ask myself about what a painting means. First at all this is the longest series I have made so far and still going, second this is the evolution of many years painting in oils and third this is me honoring our land, the place where we live, mother nature. And to honor the grandiosity of nature I made many of these paintings as big as I could, some things need to be big to be better appreciated, they carry a different feel, a different atmosphere, one seems to interact better with it, kind of sacred. To perceive all this you have to experience it in person.
Horizons explores imagined, fantastical scenes. In this body of work, I challenge reality, questioning the hows and whys using art as a means of escape from everyday life. Horizons is one of my longest-running series to date, and it continues to evolve with each new piece.

In Focus: Searching for Mushrooms No. 2
This series is about our relentless search for something in our lives, whether tangible or not. Although the painting is very literal with this woman reaching for a mushroom in rather an uncomfortable position, it is metaphorically describing deeper meaning. It could well be us looking for answers to life’s deepest questions.
Many times I ask myself questions such as: what is the purpose of our lives?, where are we heading?, where do we come from? These are very profound questions that have many answers… we can only hypothesize. I can only use paint and brushes to render my take on a piece of canvas.

In Focus: Black Bottle No. 4
Still life is a genre that has been with us for thousand of years and has evolved considerable. It is a subject very dear to me. I started painting still lifes since my college days and always felt very connected to it. I don’t paint this subject as often as I used to but when I do feels very special. With that note I’m sharing this new series of artworks called Black Bottle. I aim at simplifying shapes putting more emphasis on basic composition elements rather than details and being precise at depicting objects.

In Focus: Wonderland Series
A place where reality meets fantasy and fantasy meets reality. Unconscious desires, playfulness and encounters with other living beings.
She is strolling about and after a slight trip has fallen not knowing what to do next and finds herself in a striking pose.
Olivia is a semi-abstract figure in a more abstract landscape. This is a square mid-size (34 x 32 inches) oil painting on a stretched canvas titled “Fallen Olivia.” A pleasing muted palette of analogous blues and greens dominate this piece. Canvas is stretched on wooden strips and is ready for framing or to be displayed as is. This painting is signed ‘cherres’ in the lower left corner.

In Focus: Stripes No. 3
I am constantly fascinated with stripes. When it calls I often find a way to include them in my paintings. This one is obvious, but in landscapes they’re kind of hidden. Stripes are everywhere, in notepads, wallpapers, clothing, logos, book covers, bottles of wine and of course in nature.
I made this painting some time ago when I used to paint more figuratively, but I gotta say, I’m kind of itching to paint like this again. It’s all cycles, just like life. We’ll see where this path takes me.

In Focus: Gravity
Although some of the paintings from this series look obvious, I was inspired to depict that feeling we sometimes get as if we were floating in space. My ideas somehow reflect our daily life, our difficulties, struggles, complications, decision making; always questioning our own existence.
What is gravity? We were all thought in school it is a force emanated from the center of the earth to keep us and everything else from floating into space.
What if it’s something else?
