Horizons No. 50 is an original semi-abstract oil painting on canvas. It is a large statement landscape of freshly layered colors in an ‘alla prima’ style, meaning painted and finished while the painting is wet.
Is someone or something in that cave? And where does it lead to? Totem-like structures over the far mountain enjoying the view of a serene ocean where something is moving. Perhaps someone is peacefully living in the far island partially cast shadowed by a tree on a quiet double-moon afternoon.

Horizons is a series which explores imagined, fantastical scenes. In this body of works, I challenge reality, using art as a means of escape from everyday life. Horizons is one of my longest-running series to date, and it continues to evolve with each new piece.
Canvas is hand-stretched and primed on wooden strips and is ready for framing or to be displayed as is. This painting is signed ‘cherres’ in the front.

Original paintings: I carefully hand stretch my own unprimed canvases to ensure they will not buckle or wrinkle in the frame. I also choose a higher grade canvas than the pre-stretched store bought ones. I then prime or gesso and lightly sand them; this is a process I repeat three times.
